RAINA LEE

I am a self-taught artist working in clay. I made autobiographical ceramics that draw from memory, Chinese culture, and the history of ceramics. I describe the work as pots inspired by historic pots but with weird, futuristic glazes— melted colors, beaded chunks and bubbling volcanic surfaces. The work pushes the limits of the materials through glaze making and experimentation, non-traditional firings, and mixed media. I’m interested in creating a non-Eurocentric visual language, referencing Song Dynasty, ancient Greek, and Persian works.
